Enhancing the capacity of market inspection in the Republic of Serbia through support from the private sector

Donor: A certain number of members of the Competition Fairness Alliance
Partners: /
Beneficiaries: Market Inspection, Ministry of Internal and Foreign Trade
Implementation period: December 31, 2024 – December 31, 2026

Market inspection plays a crucial role in implementing activities to ensure product safety, maintain fair competition, protect consumers, and successfully combat the gray economy and illegal trade. This is recognized and included in the Program for Combating the Gray Economy for the period 2023-2025, as well as in the accompanying Action Plan. However, the effectiveness of market oversight is often hindered by resource limitations, such as inadequate equipment, insufficient human capacity, and lack of the latest technical knowledge. Here, the private sector, such as socially responsible companies gathered in the Competition Fairness Alliance (FCA) within NALED, can play a vital role. In this regard, NALED has launched a project to enhance the capacity of the market inspection.

Objectives and Results

  • Ensuring material resources for market oversight bodies through the necessary tools and equipment for effective inspection, such as the procurement of van vehicles based on a two-year rental agreement.
  • Providing support through education and training, i.e., conducting training sessions and workshops for market inspection, as well as organizing roundtables between socially responsible companies and market inspection representatives.
  • Organizing conferences and other events to promote the partners and the project to the public.
