Using technology for precision agriculture in BiH and Serbia

Donor: German Development Cooperation - GIZ, Telegroup d.o.o.
Partners: BFC SEE/CoRe Network (NALED, Chamber of Commerce of the Republic of Srpska, REDAH)
Implementation period: march 2026 – february 2028.

Use of Technology for Precision Agriculture in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia is a project implemented under the develoPPP programme, funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and project partner Telegroup d.o.o.

The project focuses on applying precision agriculture principles through digital solutions. It involves working with 10 selected cooperatives from Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina and using tools such as digital platforms, sensors and other technologies that enable data-driven decision-making, production optimisation and more efficient use of resources.

The cooperatives participating in the project have been given access to the AgroLife platform, a digital platform for managing agricultural production that integrates a geographic information system (GIS), digital field records, field notes, resource and workforce management, weather stations and IoT data, along with role-based access and advanced reporting. The platform enables farmers and institutions to monitor and analyse data in real time and improve decision-making at the level of individual plots, farms or wider agricultural systems.

To support data-driven decision-making, the cooperatives will be provided with precision agriculture tools, including:

  • Drones for crop monitoring and identifying problematic areas within fields;

  • Digital pheromone traps for pest monitoring;

  • Portable devices for measuring nutrient levels in plants.

The project will provide training and support to farmers from participating cooperatives to facilitate the effective use of these digital tools and precision agriculture technologies. Through dialogue with relevant ministries and other stakeholders, the project will promote recognition of the importance of precision agriculture in sectoral policies and regulations, while recommendations will be developed for decision-makers and end users on the application of precision agriculture tools.

At the same time, the project will contribute to disseminating precision agriculture models and results, promoting sustainable agricultural practices, and strengthening the capacity of cooperatives to use modern technologies.
