Fit for the needs raise opportunities for underdeveloped areas: Over 180 citizens from three municipalities participated in the needs mapping process

In order to create stimulating conditions for the development of the rural economy, NALED and the Women's Association "Ruža" from Lebane conducted a mapping of the needs of producers and processors in the field of agricultural production at the end of September, as well as service providers in the field of rural and agro-tourism and traditional handicrafts, in the municipalities of Lebane, Vlasotince and Surdulica.

The mapping was conducted in all three local governments through direct talks with these target groups, with the support of a team of partner organizations, municipalities and local community offices as well as members of the local working group participating in the project Fit for the needs raise opportunities for underdeveloped areas.

- Over 180 food producers and processors and service providers in the field of agro-tourism and traditional handicrafts took part in the mapping process in the municipalities of Surdulica, Lebane and Vlasotince. Fieldwork was designed to bring needs mapping teams closer to the target groups (rural populations, especially those living in remote areas) to the extent possible. It is interesting that the greatest interest in mapping needs in all three municipalities was expressed by the local population, with food producers leading the way. Also, important information is that this project activity includes groups of women who are engaged in the production of traditional handicrafts, said Dijana Spalević, Regional Development Advisor at NALED.

The results of the mapped needs are being summarized, which will be the basis for defining new and improving the existing incentive measures for generating the income of the population from rural areas. The intention is to focus on those areas for which the mapping results will show that the most promising for (self) employment.

In anticipation of new knowledge, this week a mapping of the needs of food producers and processors and service providers in the field of rural tourism and traditional handicrafts in neighboring North Macedonia will be organized, in the municipalities of Staro Nagoričane and Kumanovo.

The project Fit for the needs raise opportunities for underdeveloped areas is being implemented with the support of the European Union within the first call for cross-border cooperation between Serbia and North Macedonia. The project is being implemented in the municipalities of Surdulica, Lebane and Vlasotince (Serbia) and Staro Nagoričane and Kumanovo (North Macedonia). The project is implemented by NALED in partnership with the Ruža Women's Association (Serbia), the Foundation for Management and Industrial Research and the AktivUm Civil Center (North Macedonia).
