How to Apply for EU Funding: Applications Open for a Free Master Class

Do you have a project idea but are unsure how to turn it into a successful EU funding application? Wondering how to identify the right call, clearly describe your project's impact, or structure work packages in a way that convinces evaluators? If you would like to learn more about what makes a strong Horizon Europe proposal, apply for the Master Class that will be held at NALED on 5 November 2026.

The training, titled "Horizon Europe: From Idea to Project Proposal", will be led by Prof. Dr. Goran Stojanović and organized as part of the Empower Innovation project of Philip Morris Operations AD Niš, implemented by NALED. The goal is to strengthen the capacities of research and scientific institutions to prepare international project proposals, improve access to EU funding opportunities, and enhance cooperation with the innovation ecosystem and industry.

What Participants Can Expect

Through a full-day programme, participants will be guided through the entire process, from an initial idea to the development of a project proposal. The training will begin with an overview of the Horizon Europe programme structure and currently open calls, as well as guidance on how to generate project ideas and align them with relevant funding opportunities. The largest part of the training will focus on writing the three key sections of a proposal:

  • Excellence – needs analysis, objective setting, research methodology, state-of-the-art (SOTA) review, and highlighting innovative aspects;
  • Impact – understanding the difference between outcomes and impacts, pathways from results to impact, and dissemination, communication, and exploitation measures;
  • Implementation – work packages and partner roles, Gantt and PERT charts, deliverables and milestones, as well as risks and mitigation measures.

The programme will conclude with a Q&A session and discussion with the lecturer.

Who Can Apply

The Master Class is primarily intended for representatives of academic and research institutions with little or no experience in preparing EU-funded projects. A limited number of representatives from companies and civil society organisations may also participate.

Priority will be given to applicants who are involved, or will be involved, in developing project ideas and preparing proposals as part of their work, who have a specific area of interest or a concrete project idea, and who can transfer the acquired knowledge within their organisations. Participant selection will also take into account the diversity of institutions, sectors, and fields of expertise.

The training will be held in person only at NALED's premises (30 Makedonska Street, Belgrade), and the number of participants is limited to 30.

How to Apply

Applications are open until 16 October 2026 via the online application form.

Participants will receive the detailed agenda in due course.
