The municipality of Mojkovac received equipment for the utility company - a press for baling selected waste, and households were also given 500 plastic bins for sorting paper and plastic waste.
In addition, with professional support, the draft of the Local Waste Management Plan for the Municipality of Mojkovac was developed as part of the project, which is expected to be adopted after the adoption of the State Waste Management Plan, as well as the document Roadmap for Circular Economy for the Municipality of Mojkovac, which was verified by SO Mojkovac.
- For the municipality of Mojkovac, this project is an initial step towards waste recycling and a waste management program, with the goal of better environmental sustainability. The implementation of the project was carried out in friendly cooperation, where new knowledge was gained through examples of good practice. I hope that there will be more such and similar projects and that the municipality of Mojkovac will continue to improve waste management, but much larger financial resources are needed for that. The help of the line ministry is needed in order to acquire machines for the removal of recycled waste and a crusher for non-hazardous construction and waste material, but also to solve the issue of opening the Recycling Center - said the project coordinator, Ivan Ašanin.
During the two-year duration of the project, eight educational workshops were held for employees of LGUs and communal enterprises of all project partners, as well as for civil society organizations in order to raise awareness about the importance of waste management. A study visit was also conducted to Vienna, bearing in mind that Austria is one of the examples of good practice in waste management, where all project partners participated, with a focus on the exchange of knowledge and learning from the Austrian experience in the field of improving the waste management system, as well as on the primary selection of waste, with the aim of increasing the amount of recycled waste.
- I received bins for separating materials from waste that can be recycled. I am glad that something has started to be done in that field in our municipality, and with pleasure I started separating plastic packaging, cans and paper into the bins provided for that. In this way, I have significantly reduced the amount of communal waste that I dispose of in the common container. I think that the idea is excellent and good for our town considering that we are a small municipality and that we can be an example to others, but I notice that there is room for the bins to be emptied faster and more regularly - says Zlatana Vuković from the Vuković household.
The improved waste management system was made possible through the Serbia-Montenegro cross-border cooperation program, through the "BEST Cooperation in Waste Management - Towards a Sustainable Environment" project, co-financed from the EU-IPA II 2014-2020 funds, whose goal is to improve capacities, knowledge and skills for efficient waste management within the regulatory framework.
