Memorandum of Understanding signed between NALED and the Conference of Peripheral Maritime Regions

An important step forward in connecting with the European Community and strengthening the partnership with the European Union has been made with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between NALED and the General Secretariat of the Conference of Peripheral Maritime Regions (CPMR) in Brussels. This established a general framework for all future activities and projects that will arise within this joint initiative, which will aim to improve the conditions for the business environment in the Balkans and the wider Black Sea region.

The areas that the agreement signatories will focus on the most are, among others, territorial development, social and economic connection, energy and environment, tourism, cultural and creative industry, science and technology.

-The emphasis is on the exchange of expertise, information on issues related to regional cooperation, but also informing and reporting to the public on joint events and activities. We expect that this cooperation will contribute to more efficient implementation of projects and programs, as well as faster achievement of common goals - said Ana Ilić, Good Governance Director at NALED, on this occasion.

The Conference of Peripheral Maritime Regions (CPMR) brings together more than 150 regions from 24 countries within the European Union and beyond. Using its extensive network of contacts within the EU institutions and national governments, the CPMR has, since its inception, directed its actions so that the needs and interests of its member regions are taken into account in policies with a high territorial impact. The priority areas it deals with are social, economic and territorial cohesion, maritime policy and blue growth, energy and climate change, neighborhood policy, European governance.

- We are pleased to further improve cooperation with organizations in the Balkans, such as the National Alliance for Local Economic Development (NALED), within the CPMR Commission for the Balkans and the Black Sea, and we have the opportunity to work with Western Balkan stakeholders to achieve better social and territorial cohesion in Europe and contribution to European integration - said, on this occasion, Eleni Marianou, Secretary General of the CPMR.
