Green public procurement is one of the instruments that can significantly contribute to achieving sustainable development in the Republic of Serbia by promoting more efficient use of natural resources, stimulating innovation, and fostering business practices based on the principles of the circular economy.

Since January 1, 2024, green public procurement has become mandatory, signifying a departure from the exclusive consideration of price when awarding contracts for the following procurement subjects: 1) photocopy paper; 2) computer equipment (desktop computers, laptops, and monitors); 3) office electronic equipment (printers, scanners, multifunctional devices, etc.); 4) air conditioners (standard air conditioners, inverter air conditioners for heating and cooling, etc.); 5) cleaning products (products for cleaning hard surfaces, textile cleaning products, etc.).
