Health classroom

Donor: Novo Nordisk Pharma
Partners: Serbian School Sports Federation, IZJZS "Dr Milan Jovanović Batut"
Project Duration: December 2024 – October 2025.

Novo Nordisk has globally launched the Cities for Better Health program. This program is based on the belief that the prevention of chronic diseases is the only sustainable way to reduce the burden they impose on society as a whole. Additionally, it emphasizes the need to shape social structures in a way that creates opportunities for a healthy life. The "Health Classroom" project is designed with the goal of raising the level of primary prevention and healthy lifestyle habits among children, in order to improve public health in Serbia. The activities target primary school students from grades I-IV in three cities in Serbia, Subotica, Čačak and Leskovac, as well as assessing the effects of several months of systematic work with children in the area of healthy habits.

Key Activities:

  • Physical activity lessons, based on a circuit training system
  • Healthy habits lessons, with a focus on nutrition

The planned lessons will serve as free educational sessions to introduce children to approaches to healthy lifestyles, tailored to their understanding and interests. Nutrition lessons will be led by nutritionists based on a previously prepared manual and specialized training. Physical activity lessons will be conducted by physical education teachers using equipment for the circuit training.

The expected outcome of the project in this phase is an increased understanding of the importance of healthy lifestyles and practical ways to improve public health among 900 students in 15 schools across Serbia.
