We were deeply saddened by the news of the passing of one of our own, Prof. Dr. Dušan Vujović – a distinguished economist, university professor, and former Minister of Finance.
As Minister of Finance, Prof. Vujović made an immeasurable contribution to fiscal consolidation and the improvement of fair competition through the implementation of the National Program for Countering the Shadow Economy, which earned him NALED’s “Reformer of the Year” award in 2018.
He supported the introduction of tax exemptions for business starters, giving many entrepreneurs the encouragement and means to launch their businesses legally.
Following his departure from the Ministry of Finance, his cooperation with NALED continued through his role as President of the Scientific Council, where he selflessly shared his knowledge and experience, and provided expert support in drafting the Grey Book and other strategic analyses and policy recommendations. His thoughtfulness, well-reasoned approach, and dedication to reform made a lasting impact on public-private dialogue and the reform process in Serbia.
Prof. Vujović worked for the World Bank, participated in reforms across more than 20 countries, and taught at numerous universities. His work left a profound mark both on international institutions and the Serbian academic community.
The passing of Prof. Vujović is a great loss to all of us who had the privilege to learn from him and collaborate with him. We are grateful for his contributions and the legacy he left in the field of economics and in our lives, which is why this year’s edition of the Grey Book will be dedicated to Dušan.
NALED expresses its deepest sympathy to his family, friends, and colleagues.
