At the initiative of NALED and Food and Agriculture Alliance, the Government of Serbia established an interdisciplinary Expert working group for food and agriculture, presided by the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Branislav Nedimović.

Apart from NALED, the Expert group brings together the representatives of all relevant ministries and directorates, including: the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management (state secretary, assistant ministers, department heads), the Ministry’s Veterinary Directorate, Plant Protection Directorate, Agricultural Land Directorate, Directorate for Agrarian Payments, Directorate for National Reference Laboratories, the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Economy, Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications, Ministry of Public Administration and Local Government, Ministry of Finance, Tax Administration, Customs Administration, National Public Policy Secretariat, Provincial Secretariat for Agriculture, Water Management and Forestry and the Serbian Chamber of Commerce.

As a platform for public-private dialogue, the Expert group will work on the following tasks:

  • Creating the conditions for aligning the sectorial regulations with the strategic goals of agriculture and food industry development
  • Developing an action plan defining the long-term agrarian policy in the context of EU accession
  • Providing expert opinions and suggestions in the process of drafting the laws and by-laws related to agriculture and food industry

One of the first priorities of NALED’s Food and Agriculture Alliance will be the work regarding the planned amendments to the Law on Food Safety, as an umbrella law in this field. The Alliance will also focus on ensuring availability of food and agriculture rulebooks in its draft phase to all stakeholders, primarily among businesses.
