Marbo in cooperation with NALED donated 1,500 aid packages to the most vulnerable in Niš

Aid consisting of 1,500 food and hygiene packages, worth almost two million dinars, provided by the Marbo Product company through NALED's donation platform, was delivered to the city of Niš today. The packages are intended for Roma households and soup kitchen users in this city, whom the local government recognized as the most vulnerable.

Representatives of NALED and Marbo Product (PepsiCo, Inc.) handed out packages in the presence of the Mayor of Niš, Darko Bulatović.

- Today we gathered once more to send a message of unity, solidarity and trust that companies have in NALED. That is exactly why they responded to our initiative to donate food to those who need it the most. Thanks to the Marbo company, but also to others who provided more than 52 tons of food for the most vulnerable through the NALED platform. Those companies were also the initiators of our appeal to the Government of Serbia to abolish tax on this type of donations. In Serbia, about 250,000 tons of food are discarded  every year, and 99% of food from catering facilities ends up in landfills. Abolishing tax on food donations would help many to decide to donate - said NALED Executive Director, Violeta Jovanović.

Tijana Đorđevic Ilić, a member of the city council in charge of social policy, said that the donation that arrived in Niš today means a lot at a time when everyone is trying to overcome the crisis caused by the coronavirus.

- This donation is even more valuable, because it goes to those who are most united, and those are primarily the soup kitchen users. According to the City’s decision, they are not able to work and that is why we always try to take care of them, especially in these circumstances - she said.

Ljiljana Radosavljević, Corporate Communications Manager at Marbo Product, thanked Mayor Bulatović and NALED for the quick and efficient action that enabled the donation to reach the most vulnerable in Niš.

- It is important to maintain the continuity of such cooperation, especially in the difficult circumstances we are facing. For us as a company, it was necessary to find relevant partners, and we found them in NALED. We would be pleased if we contributed at least a little to bring a smile to the vulnerable households with this donation - says Radosavljević.

NALED's online donation platform is designed to connect primarily local governments in need of assistance with companies and international organizations that can provide such assistance. It was launched in early April, and so far through this channel, we have provided and delivered 52 tons of food to 11,000 households, 67 computers for schools and municipal services, medical and protective equipment, as well as support to 41 local governments in mitigating negative consequences of the pandemic. The total value of these donations is more than 250,000 euros.
