The treatment of professional drivers from the Western Balkans region was the focus of the European Commission’s Technical Working Group meeting on the Entry/Exit System (EES), which was also attended by NALED. Representatives of relevant business associations were also present, further broadening the dialogue on this important issue.
Ahead of the meeting, NALED submitted a written contribution, emphasizing the importance of the uninterrupted flow of road transport for trade between the region and the European Union. It was particularly highlighted that the EU is Serbia’s most important foreign trade partner, and that the majority of goods exchange depends on efficient and predictable road transport.
During the meeting, the broader implications of this issue were underlined, particularly in the context of supply chain functioning and economic flows between the region and the European Union. The need to find operational solutions during the transitional period to ensure the smooth functioning of transport and trade was also emphasized.
“This issue goes beyond the transport sector and directly affects the functioning of supply chains and the level of economic integration between the region and the European Union. It is important that we find practical and operational solutions during the transitional period that will ensure the uninterrupted flow of trade and preserve the achieved level of trade and economic integration,” said Aleksandar Simić, Regulatory Reform Manager at NALED.
Representatives of all business associations from Serbia who attended the meeting pointed to the importance of this issue for both transport companies and the broader business environment, as well as for investors operating in Serbia and the region.
NALED expressed its readiness to continue contributing to the identification of practical and sustainable solutions, including through the development of analyses and recommendations of concrete measures aimed at improving cross-border trade and the competitiveness of the region.
