The exchange of knowledge and experiences at the international level in the field of information security is a crucial mechanism for preventing potential cyber incidents. Through collaboration and dialogue, countries can enhance their capabilities and resilience to the challenges of the digital age, providing adequate responses to various threats. This was highlighted during the two-day workshop titled "British Experiences in Information Security Management," organized by the Ministry of Information and Telecommunications in collaboration with NALED and the British Embassy, as part of the "Strengthening Information Security" project supported by TAG International.
Key points emphasized at the workshop included the significance of the United Kingdom's experience in addressing the rising risks and threats in the digital world. Milan Vojvodić, Head of the Regulatory Department for Information Security at the Ministry of Information and Telecommunications, stressed the importance of building national capacities through appropriate regulations, strategic documents, and capacity-strengthening activities to ensure adequate information security.
Thomas Wright, representative of the British Embassy in Belgrade, commended the Ministry's prioritization of adopting information security legislation and increasing focus on cyber threats. He underscored that cybersecurity is a dynamic field where the capacities of both state and non-state actors are crucial.
David Dowse, TAG International's Regional Leader for the Western Balkans, highlighted the importance of such workshops in strengthening public-private partnerships and facilitating the exchange of experiences and information among key stakeholders in information security. He emphasized the value of transferring the UK's experience as a leading country in developing cyber resilience.
Dušan Vasiljević, Director for Competitiveness and Investments at NALED, emphasized NALED's commitment to cyber security, noting numerous training sessions organized across Serbia for small and medium-sized enterprises, IT administrators, and department heads. He highlighted the ongoing support for regulatory activities of the Ministry and efforts to enhance collaboration between the public and private sectors in data protection and information security.
In addition to readiness issues, the shortage of skilled personnel in information security was another topic of concern discussed during the panel. The workshop concluded with a simulation exercise on the second day, designed to raise awareness among participants about ransomware attacks and effective response strategies.
Overall, the workshop served as a platform for enhancing national capabilities and fostering a comprehensive approach to cybersecurity challenges through international collaboration and knowledge sharing.
