eGovernment Day in Despotovac

eGovernment Day was held today in the Municipality of Despotovac as part of the project “eGovernment for All”, with the aim of introducing citizens to the opportunities and benefits of using electronic public services.

Assistant Director at the Office for IT and eGovernment, Dragana Bećić, and the President of the Municipality of Despotovac, Zlatko Marjanović, together with representatives of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and NALED, visited the promotional stand and spoke with citizens.

Bećić said that the Office, in cooperation with local governments, continuously works on developing and improving digital services in order to provide citizens and businesses with faster and easier access to public administration services.

“Citizens of the Municipality of Despotovac are already using several electronic services, such as eInbox, the eAppointment service for scheduling ID card or passport appointments, eKindergarten and eID, while employees in the municipal administration have completed training for working in the eSick Leave–Employer and ePay systems, which contributes to more efficient administrative work. Through the system for official data exchange – eZUP – more than 21,000 data exchanges have been carried out so far. In practice, this means that citizens of this municipality no longer have to collect documents themselves or go from counter to counter, as the administration obtains the necessary data electronically. We invite citizens of Despotovac to register on the eGovernment Portal, become eCitizens and take advantage of electronic services available at any time, without visiting administrative counters. The Office for IT and eGovernment will continue to cooperate with the Municipality of Despotovac on the further development of digital services and encouraging their wider use,” Bećić emphasized.

“I am particularly pleased that the Municipality of Despotovac is among the first in Serbia to recognize the significant benefits of this project and that our citizens will be among the first to experience its many advantages. I am proud that our municipality is one of those where the ‘eGovernment for All’ project is being presented and promoted today. This is a very important project, not only for the citizens of this area but for all citizens of Serbia, because its implementation brings numerous benefits and considerable savings in both time and costs. The key point is that citizens will no longer need to come to the municipality for many documents or to submit various requests and applications, as they will be able to obtain documentation electronically via their computers and track the status of their requests,” said the President of the Municipality of Despotovac, Zlatko Marjanović.

“Participation in eGovernment Days and visits to local governments across Serbia that are part of this initiative is very important for UNDP. Together with our partners from the Office for IT and NALED, this gives us the opportunity to meet directly with local government representatives, speak with citizens and better understand the challenges they face in using and developing electronic public services. Our focus going forward will be to support the involvement of citizens in the design of new public services so that everyone can benefit from the advantages of digital transformation,” said Jelena Ružičić, Head of the Responsible Governance Sector at UNDP.

“Our member, the Municipality of Despotovac, has made significant progress in using digital services and successfully implements key eServices. Despotovac is also an example of good practice in the field of open data, contributing to greater cooperation with citizens and increased transparency,” said NALED Regulatory Reform Specialist Ilija Gavrilović, reminding that with the mentoring support of the organization, the Municipality of Despotovac developed its Development Plan several years ago, with citizens actively participating in its preparation through working groups and consultations.

eGovernment Day was jointly launched by the Office for IT and eGovernment, the Ministry of Public Administration and Local Self-Government, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), NALED, the Digital District and the World Bank, with the aim of making electronic public administration accessible to everyone, regardless of the size and capacities of local governments.

eGovernment for All represents a unique opportunity for local governments to improve their services, optimize processes and become recognized drivers of digital transformation, for the benefit of citizens and the economy.
