NALED representatives are in Brussels during the European Week of Regions and Cities, aiming to strengthen cooperation with European Union institutions. They also seek to exchange experiences in ESG standards and supply chain sustainability, green transition (CBAM), innovation and collaboration through EIT and the ESG Hub, as well as to establish partnerships with relevant European institutions and organizations.
The delegation is led by Jelena Bojović, NALED’s Program Director, who told EUpravo zato that they came to Brussels primarily to exchange experiences in areas crucial for the country’s economic development—from research and innovation to tax policy and the improvement of property rights.
“Above all, the goal is to share as much information as possible about what is currently being done in Serbia in the fields of research, development, taxation, property, and other areas that NALED covers, and in which we cooperate with the Government of Serbia to improve policies and public administration, so that the business environment in Serbia truly becomes better,” Bojović told our portal.
She emphasized that NALED, as an organization connecting the private, public, and civil sectors, wants to hear—from the European Commission—how the EU can support Serbia in preparing for new policies and regulations coming from the European level. According to her, this includes support for businesses, startups, innovators, and research organizations in better adapting to future changes within the European integration process.
“We also want to hear what the European Commission is doing that could help us in the future to facilitate and prepare our businesses, startups, as well as our innovators and research organizations, for the new policies coming from the EU level toward Serbia,” Bojović noted.
She added that the visit came at “just the right time,” while the President of the European Commission is in Serbia, which further confirms the focus of European institutions on our country.
During their stay in Brussels, NALED representatives held meetings with directorates of the European Commission dealing with tax systems, research and development, and labor law issues.
These meetings, according to Bojović, are an extremely important opportunity to establish direct communication with the most relevant European institutions and gain insight into future policy directions that will influence reforms in Serbia.
In addition to meetings with EU institutions, the NALED delegation also held several meetings with Belgian institutions to learn about their experiences in cooperating with the European Union and the possibilities of applying good practices in Serbia.
“We want to see how Belgian institutions, at the very heart of the EU, cooperate with the Union and what advice they can give us,” Bojović added.
This visit is part of NALED’s broader efforts to strengthen institutional ties with the EU and contribute to creating a stable, predictable, and competitive business environment in Serbia, aligned with European standards and policies.
